Turquoise is one of the oldest gemstones used to make jewelry. The ancient Egyptians used turquoise over 6000 years ago! They called it "mefkat" which means joy or delight.
In North American history many natives used turquoise in trade. The Apaches attached turquoise to bows or other firearms, believing it would guarantee accuracy. Today turquoise is the national gem of Tibet. Tibetans believe turquoise may grant good health and fortune.
