It is mined at high altitudes in the Karakoram Mountains in Pakistan, and, like emerald, is a variety of the mineral beryl. Aquamarine's high transparency give is a high shine and gorgeous sparkle.
Caring for your AquamarineAquamarines are durable, but proper care is important. Take care not to expose your aquamarine to chemicals, such as alcohol and ammonia, as they can damage the stone. It is also suggested to store your gemstones seperately, as they can scratch one another. To clean your aquamarine, you can soak it in a solution of warm water and a small amount of dish soap. Scrub the stone gently with a soft bristled toothbrush, and make sure to rinse in warm water to get rid of an excess soap.
